All screenshots of Google Theme (iGoogle)
I believe that all of you already knew about iGoogle (formally known as “Google Personalized Home Page”) and its gorgeous themes. The interesting thing is that those theme can be changed dynamically based on either local time or weather.
There are six different themes as picture above in iGoogle. ( Actually, there are 7 themes available but “Winter scape” is a hidden theme which can’t be directly accessed. ) All of those themes are divided into 2 categories such as Weathe-based theme and Time-based theme. The weather-based theme is a theme which shows the different design based on local weather condition. For example, we will see raining theme if it’s raining in our location. The time-based theme does the same but based on local time. For example, we will see night-view theme at night.
Weather-base theme
- BusStop
Time-base theme
- Beach
- City Scape
- Sweet Dreams
- Tea House
- Seasonal Scape
The BusStop theme is based on local weather condition while all others are on time.
The reason why I write this post is that I wanna share something that I found on iGoogle last weekend. The story started when I was eagerly to know how many pictures included in each theme. I didn’t know how to find out for those images. The first flash I got is that Google Gadget are created based on XML file. So, I believed that I will get the path of those images when I got the link of XML file. Then, I googled a lit for that and I found the list of xml files as below.
XML file of Google Theme

The following code is cool trick that I got from this link. Go to XML file (that I already mentioned above). Find out the path of CSS file. Type the code with the path of CSS file that you wanna changed.
javascript:void(document.getElementById("ext_css").href="/ig/skins/winterscape/winterscape_3.14am.css");
What do you think? do you like it?? :)

Hi Mike,
First time I visit your site (got the link from Melody’s shoutbox).
Thanks for the info on iGoogle themes. First time I heard of iGoogle. I’m rather new to blogging… I started only in the May of this year.
Can these themes be used on Blogger (Blogspot), which also belongs to the Google group? I’m looking for a nice background for my plain blog :)
Cheers!
Alvin

I think it’s not for blogger. AFAIK, those themes are especially created for iGoogle (also known as personalized homepage).
I have been to your blog. your blog looks nice.. very clean and elegant theme.
For me, I’m still happy with the default theme without making any customization … I think that it’s not really important to customize the theme. The most important thing (at least for me) is content.. if you are writing nice and valuable contents which are useful for everybody then people will come and visit to your blog.. :)

why can’t I find any winterscape theme on my igoogle? does it have been discontinued?
November 13th, 2007 at 8:25 am
maybe.. no idea.. Based on my research, the XML file (CSS and images) for that theme is still there. The option for selecting this theme is not available in iGoogle..
Thanks for visiting my blog, btw.. ;)

iGoogle’s themes are a great little way to spice up a homepage. making them dynamic? well, thats just the icing on the cake. What would be awesome is if they could make them all dynamic on multiple ranges like for weather, AND time,
would be neat

Hi jdawg, thanks for your comment..
>>What would be awesome is if they could make them all dynamic on multiple ranges like for weather, AND time,
Actually, the Google already exported the user preferences so the developer who create the Google Gadget should get the color preferences and should change the things in their gadget.. Have you checked-out Google Clock Gadget? The color of this gadget change based on the user preferences.

I absolutely love spring scape because of it’s friendly country theme and how it changes every few hours.

Mike, are you the guy behind the iGoogle’s “Spring Scape” theme? First of all, it’s beautiful. Now, the problem: I (and many others) cannot change this theme to other themes. We are ’stuck’ with it:( Any advice?
Sincerely,
Nat

Thanks so much!! I had changed my old reliable “beach” theme a few days ago and then decided I wanted to go back to it. But I couldn’t remember it’s name!! I paged through dozens of “new theme” choices on google and couldn’t see it.
I was so glad to find your page (typed “old google themes” into google) and see it there!

I find it really irritating. I just chose a “dynamic” theme by chance. It opened a box that asked your location. I was goofing off and put “Zurich,” and now the stupid theme shows a midnight scene at noon, and there is no way to change it to my time zone.

Thanks for the Google teahouse s. shots- the pictures make me so happy : )

Thanks for sharing and for the efforts of uploading those pics,
now I can choose easier for the theme I want.
I’m still love the greenhouse though :)

Hi
I totally love the Spring Scene.
The colours, graphics and actions are brilliant and have really cheered me up this Winter!
I think the way the scene changes based on time or weather is genius.
Are there many more out there on iGoogle or are these the only ones?
