>>btw, you know Pete’s website, right? he showed some stats of RIA jobs and ASP.NET. I compared the stats between Silverlight job opening and ASP.NET job opening and found that asp.net job opening is much higher than Silverlight.<<

Yes, I know Pete. He is a scholar and a Gentleman!

When I started learning WPF two years ago, due to lack of third party controls and Xaml not being accepted among programmers and slow performance, WPF took the back sit for one year and then MS began with WPF/e which I knew it's going to be a great move. From that time, WPF began to move faster. Then when SL 1.1 was announced, it pushed WPF into the market more. And now SL is leading the way with WPF following it. This is not how MS envisioned for WPF and SL (actually the other way around, and now they got most of the WPF team working on SL.

ASP is a great platform. I just hate to create a solution that I have to glue HTML, C#, JavaScript, CSS, SQL all mixed up. I've been an enterprise developer for many years and my worst nightmare has been when you mix multiple and different technologies together. And that's what I love about WPF and SL to stay in one platform. Otherwise I'll take ASP in any moment.

ASP will not go away. There are clearly many sites that should be using as "Website" rather SL and the other way around. Yesterday, I met with a prospect who is in industrial business and his clients are large companies. To sell their product, they need to educate their new customers through lots of factual data, video, pictures and simulations. They need a true "Rich" interactive engagement to show product. They can't do it now. They tried with Java, AJAX even with Flash, and it's not there. So, maybe we can hit it with SL.

Hey, sorry for long post.

>>Sorry, my bad. He was asking about RTM and you answered him about Beta 2 and I got thrown off.

haha. Yes. Sorry. I know he was asking abt RTM but I think there won't be RTM for Silverlight. Why? it's for designer-friendly. they called Expression Preview. not RTM.

>>Man, I had a nasty problem with the installation and ScottGu came to rescue like a “Superman” :-).

Yes, man. I also had a few problems in installing Tool for VS. but now its okay. :) Installation become harder and harder these days. (not just next and click anymore :( )

>>Mike, too bad you don’t live in US, we could hang out and do lots of SL project. I love your passion for SL!

I wish I live there. Now, it's really hard to find the SL job. but my contract will be ended at the end of this month so I will change my job next month. but it will be ASP.NET developer only. :( btw, you know Pete's website, right? he showed some stats of RIA jobs and ASP.NET. I compared the stats between Silverlight job opening and ASP.NET job opening and found that asp.net job opening is much higher than Silverlight.

>>they keep asking for the same animations that Flash offers

yes. one of friends recently asked me to create the animated logo for his website .. bad.

Beta 2 uses the dual core CPU much better than beta 1. On my Quad core machine, it screams...

I've been running into some strange situations with new prospects. Somehow, people think SL is the Flash version of MS for web development and they keep asking for the same animations that Flash offers. It's tough to combat this expectations. I hope this message does not go around that SL is just a flash killer!

Mike, why are you downloading SDK? The SL Tools includes the SDK as well.

Also, I learned further, to use Astoria, we need to install .Net 3.5 SP1 install first, since Astoria (server) is part of that installation. Then you can install the tools and Blend AFTER the SP1 is installed
