* We assumed that you already installed Python and CVSNT in your machine.

Steps:

• Start –> Programs -> CVSNT -> CVSNT Control Panel
• You will see the control panel of CVSNT as following.

• Stop both CVSNT Service and CVSNT Lock Service.
• Click “Repository Configuration” tab.

• Click “Add” button. The Server Setting Dialog will be shown as following.

• Type the Path of CVSRoot (“D:\CVSRoot”), Name and Description.. Checked the “Default Repository”
• Click “OK”

• Click “Yes”
• Click “Apply” of CVSNT Control Panel
• Go to Server Setting Tab, Specify the temp folder. (Whatever u like.but should not be “%WINDIR%\TEMP”)

• Click “Apply” and “OK”
• Restart the CVSNT Service and Lock Service.

Notes : Sometimes, Service can’t be started.. then Restart the machine and wait around 5 minutes.. After that, Try to restart again..

Current Version : 1.0-2005-05-18B

• Run ViewCvs4CVSNT-1.0-2005-05-18B.exe
• Click Next button. (Welcome to the ViewCVS4CVSNT)

• Select Accept option and Click Next button. (License Agreement.)

• Click Next button. (Information related to Security on WinXp)

• Click Next button. (Select Destination Location)

• Click Next button. (Select Components)
• All options should be checked. (By default)

• Click Next button. (Select Start Menu Folder)

• Click Install button. (Ready to Install) *Wait a few moments during installation *You might see running cacls.exe
• Check the image file “8 – Cmd – Cacls.JPG”
• And also see running Phython.exe
• Check the image file “8 – Cmd – Phython.JPG ”
• * If you already install ViewCVS, it will ask you whether overwrite or not.
• Press “o” to overwrite the existing version.

• Click Next button. ( Information )

• Select Yes, restart the machine now.
• Click Finish button.
• Restart the machine.
• Open ViewCVS link from Start Menu.
• You will the list of repositories on Web Browser.
• Check the image file “webpage.JPG”

- Run pywin32-207.win32-py2.4.exe

- Click Next button. (Welcome to the Pywin 32-207)
* Setup will tell you whether python could be found or not.

- Click Next button. (Python is required.)

- Click Next button. (Ready to Install)
* it will take a few minutes for installation depend on your machine.

- Click Install button. (Ready to Install)
* Wait a few moments during installation

- Click Finish button. (Postinstall script finished.)

• Run Python-2.4.2.msi
• Select Install for all users

• (Select Destination Directory)
• Don’t change the destination. (Recommended.)
• Click Next button.

• Click Next button. (Customize Python 2.4.2)

• Click Next button. (Customize Python 2.4.2)

• It will start installation. (Install Python 2.4.2)
• Click Finish button. (Completing the Python 2.4.2 Installer)

CVSNT ( Version – 2.5.xxx)

- Run cvsnt-2.5.03.2151.msi
- Click Next button (Welcome to the CVSNT)

- Select “Accept” radio button (EULA)
- Click Next button

- Click Typical Setup Type (Choose Setup Type)

- Click Install button (Ready to Install)
* Wait a few moments during installation

- Click Finish button (Completing the CVSNT 2.5.03.2151 Setup Wizard)

- Click Yes button.

CVS stands for Concurrent Versions System. It is developed by … for .. Project and It started with small scripts and now, it become very large project and such a good and quite popular tool as version control system over the world. It’s seem like Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0. (maybe only for me.) It can perform all very important operations, such as check-in, check-out, commit, get latest version and so on, for Project Management and can maintain all records for each and every operations that is performed. It enable us to manage our individual or team projects through the internet globally.

Advantages of using CVS

• Perform all operations such as check-in, check-out and so on
• Keep the history of each and every operations
• One or more people can work on the same project
• Can work over internet
• Platform Independent
• Totally FREE ( under Open Source License(s) )
• Can install only the needed portions of this tool

Disadvantages of using CVS

• Lack of documentations and Supports
• Difficult to use or understand the CVS (esp: for Windows User)
• Lack of user friendly message and error message
• There are many tools available for CVS so that it’s difficult to choose the better tools for our environment
